Grape Varieties and Great Tasting Sparkling Champagnes

Champagne is a type of sparkling wine, usually a clear liquid. Champagne had first originating in the northeast section of France by the Romans as early as the 5th century. It is mixed with certain grapes grown in this region, more specifically a blend of the Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Champagne can vary greatly in texture, style and strength. Champagne is widely drunk at parties and during celebrations such as weddings or even college graduation parties. Champagne is meant to be drunk when first buying it, as it loses it's flavor after about 3 to 5 years after being made.

The bubbles that come from Champagne often make the drink a lot to look at, making it just seem a lot tastier to most people. High quality champagne will have very small bubbles they seem to last much longer than they really should. The lower quality sparkling wines will have much larger bubbles, and generally not last very long.

There are also three different levels, or qualities, of Champagne. Vintage Champagne is made from using all of the grapes grown in one specific year. The non-vintage Champagne does not last as long as vintage Champagne and is made from different grapes, grown during many different years. The tastiest, most expensive and final quality of Champagne would be the prestige cuvée Champagne. It uses all grapes from one year like the vintage Champagne, but is made from the first pressing of the grapes as well as having aged for a longer period of time.
