Grape Facts

Grapes come in more shades than just the popular purple and green. With colors like red, white, black and blue-black, grapes are a sweet choice that contains powerful antioxidants that help fight cancer and heart disease.

Besides wine, grapes can be dried into raisins, roughly mashed into jelly, crushed into juice and eaten whole. With about 80 percent water, grapes are a low-calorie, quick fix snack that won't burn a hole into your pocket.

After being washed under a calm stream of water, grape clusters can maintain their freshness for up to a week if put into a zip-lock bag. Grapes can be grown anywhere around the world as long as there is sufficient sunshine, water and nutrient rich soil. However, most grapes grow within California.

I have myself used grape info in a trivia with friends. This is a fun way to learn about wines, vineyards and wine statistics. When it comes to wines is also fun to know grape information about Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noirs and Zinfandel.

When knowing your grape facts, next time you're drinking a sparkling wine, you will know what kind of grapes have been in those oak barrels. This will impress your wine loving friends.
