How to Determine if a White Wine is Dry

To determine the sweetness level of a white whine, whether or not it's dry, you must know how much residual sugar is in the wine after the fermentation process is completed. Wine sellers list the sugar levels of wines using numbers known as the LBCO sugar code, often on the display shelves. If you desire a white wine that is very dry, you will need a bottle listed as a zero. If you are looking for a dry white wine, you are looking for a bottle with a LBCO code of one or two. The higher the number on the LBCO sugar code the sweeter the wine will be.

There other factors that determine the sweetness of the wine as well, such as your individual palate and the foods you may be paring with the wine. A few examples of dry white wine are Sauvignon Blanc, Albariņo, Chardonnay and Muscadet.

Some of us do like sweet white wine while others don't. That's also why wines are so fascinating. From whites and red wines, the end result depends on what happens in the vineyards and winery before it ends up in your glass. It's actually very fun to know what your dry white have been through in the process and the more you know about wines, the more interesting it gets.
