How Long Does Wine Last Unopened?

Wine is a beverage that is aged at different rates to accommodate various cultural tastes and preferences so that there is always confusion over how long to keep a bottle of wine before opening it. In recent years, this problem has become more complicated as some wine manufacturers promote drinking all wines quickly so that more bottles will sell.

In America, and for many American wines, there is a popular belief that the wine is ready to drink at any time after it enters the bottle. This drink-quick practice sends chills down the spine of European wine drinkers who prefer a different style of flavor coming out of their grape filled bottles. Wine flavor is judged by the user’s preference in taste.

As a rule-of-thumb, wines do not go bad as long as the cork is intact and secure so that no unwanted bacteria can enter the bottle to alter the natural processes going on with the grapes inside. Bottles should be stored on their sides in a cool dark place and it is fine to keep most wines in a lesser-than-adequate storage situation a minimum of 5 to 10 years.

As you see, it is best if you keep your wine stored right on the side in the rack. This will make them last longer. This goes both for red and white wines, but not for sparkling wine that are meant to be taste quicker.
