How To Plant Grape Vines In the Fall

When planting grapes in the fall, it is important to make sure they are in a tree area that will not frost early on in the season. If you think this will be a problem for your grapegrow make sure to have some sort of protection, such as row covers and leaves for the fruitplants.

In the fall, mound the dirt above the bottom of the roots cuttings to make it powdery. This helps protect against the winter cold. A trellis or some other structure for the vines to grow on is essential as well. Each plant should be approximately 8 inches apart.

Grape vines do great in soils with a lot of organic matter. A soil with a pH right around 6.5 or a little higher is ideal. Areas and vineyards that have the most access to sunlight will also help produce the best grapes. If these are also in a well drained area, you will have successful vines.
