Wine bottles - More than just containers for wine?

Tapping wine and wine bottles is the best way to store a wine and when corking wine bottle containers it will last a long time. From the winery wine is bottled in different sizes and corked before it ends up in the store. But there are many fascinating things to learn about wine and wine bottles.

Wine bottles with indented bottoms

As you have seen, many wine bottles have an indented bottom. This is called a punt and it is useful in the traditional method of the winery when making sparkling wines. In the process the bottles are racked with the top nestled into the punt of the next and then gradually tipped upside down. This causes wine sediment to settle into the neck of the bottle before it is removed. In non sparkling wines the punt serves the purpose of making you think you're getting more wine than you are.

Why are wine bottles green?

Personally, I haven't really given this question much thought, but have you ever wondered why most wine bottles are green? The green color in wine bottles is There, because it's believed that the light can ruin the taste of wine.

How to open a bottle of wine

When opening a wine bottle, use whatever corkscrew l you like best. You will find a wide variety of corkscrews out there, some of them have one handle and some corkscrews have two. In case you're not sure what corkscrew you need, just ask for some suggestions at the wine store. I'm sure you will find a corkscrew that you like.

What to do with empty wine bottles?

For anyone who drinks a considerable amount of wine, empty wine bottles might become a problem. But have you ever thought about what you can do with them? What you should do is to recycle these containers in some way. In my opinion the best way is to recycle them in a way so that they can become new bottles, but I know some people do enjoy to peel off the labels and use them as vases. What you do with yours, is your choice.
