5 Tips for Finding Great Summer Wineglases

When choosing glassware for your wine, there are different winestyles and classification to consider. The glasses you take from the rack should be a type suitable for the occasion.

Summer brings with it the delight of spending time outdoors, and for those over 21 a great way to pass the time is by sipping cold wine while relaxing in the fresh air. But what types of wine glasses are best for this kind of use?

1. Nothing too delicate. While it's important to keep your wine glasses elegant and fashionable, many kinds of stemware are simply not suited to outdoor use. This isn't the time to you user best crystal, but at the same time, drinking wine from plastic colored plastic stem glasses is hardly an elegant way to spend the afternoon. Compromise with something durable and solid, but still glass, to give your patio an edge of sophistication.

2. Buy something you can afford to replace. Wine glasses get knocked over, especially when being used outside. You should always make sure that the glasses you've purchased are easy to replace - think stores like Ikea, Pier 1, and Target for glasses under five dollars each, which can be easily replaced when accidents happen.

3. Test lots of glasses before you buy. The weight of a wineglass in your hand, and the shape of the actual goblet, make a big difference in how you enjoy different types of wine glasses. Pay attention to the feel of the stem and the base of the glass in your hand, and remember that with white wine, you want to hold onto the stem more so as not to warm the wine.

4. Consider something fun. Summer wine glass collections often feature cute designs or nicely colored glass, and this can liven up an otherwise boring patio set!

5. Match your wine glasses to your ice bucket - they'll be seeing a lot of each other as you keep your white wine chilled!
