Best wines to match a steak dinner
Traditionally, a red wine is served with red meats because the flavors found inside of the red wine bottles tends to be heavier than those found inside the pink or white varieties of wine. Steak is often heavily spiced and served with flavorful sauces that the taste of the wine must compete with to be noticed.
Many people also drink wine at a BBQ and what wine you drink depends on what you put on the grill. Some prefers a steakhouse style filet-mignon, steaks and fried chicken while others prefer vegetables and shrimp. You will have to review what you enjoy the most with the recipes and then match your wine so it becomes a good pairing.
Wine from Napa Valley usually is very popular pair along with most cuts of filetmignon, but Cabernet Sauvignon is also a good choice as well as most Pinot Noir wines.
For a romantic steak dinner, it is fine to serve a glass of champagne instantly at the dinner table to set the mood, and so that this light wine taste can be enjoyed with the candles, appetizers, and the salad offering before the heavier tasting meat dish arrives at the table. In America, many people enjoy a nice California Zinfandel red wine with their meat.
However, for all other occasions beyond the romantic dinner the choice of wine that is used with a red meat dish can be in any flavor that appeals to you. Some steak eaters find it fun to use strong flavored peach or berry Boones Farm style of wines or wine coolers to wash their meat down while eating steak at an informal gathering.
Another way of enjoying wine with a nice steak dinner is to choose an extra heavy flavor of Port wine to sip with the after dinner cigar. Some believe that their steak should not be trying to compete on the pallet with their wines, and choose to keep the steak course and the wine course of the meal separated from each other.
