The California Wine Club versus the Cellars Wine Club - How Do They Measure Up?
The California Wine Club has been in business for 29 years. The owners, Bruce and Pam Boring, wanted to be able to allow people to taste some of the fine wines that were being made in their surrounding area. The wineries that provide these wines were usually only known in the local communities; not out on the open market.
Although they offer international selections of wines, their main focus has been on the small family-owned wineries and vineyards located in California’s Wine Valley. Even the international selections are mainly focused on small unknown wineries. This wine club offers four different wine programs that may be joined. The programs offered through The California Wine Club include Premier Club, Signature Series, International Selections, and Aged Cabernet Series.
Each month, depending on the club that was joined, the selected wines are sent out to customers for their tasting and approval. The reason this club was founded was to be able to get the “unknown” wines out on the market where they normally would not be found. These wines are usually priced well below the average market price of leading brand wines. Consumers are able to sample wines, through their joined program, which they would not have access to in their local grocery or liquor store.
On the other hand, The Cellars Wine Club has been in business for 20 years. The focus of this company has been to get wines that are made all over the world out to the consumers. Cellars Wine Club offers 11 different programs to join and they focus on “hard to find” wines. Their programs include the Sweet Wine Club, Single Bottle Club, Premium Wine Club, Red Trio Club, International Wine Club, West Coast Wine Club, Platinum Wine Club, 90 + Point Wine Club, Cellars High End Wine Club, the Champagne Club, and the Case Club. These programs offer different varieties of wines that come from different locations.
The reason this club was founded was to get wines that are hard to acquire out to the consumers. Cellars Wine Club searches for the wines that most individuals could not purchase on the market and offers them under their programs on a monthly basis. The wines featured in this club are normally higher priced, leading brand wines. Consumers can join the club that pertains to their taste in wine, where they will be able to taste various wines that, normally, they may not have been able to taste under any other conditions.
In either case, both The California Wine Club and the Cellars Wine Club have the same concept in mind; get the product out to the consumer in order to receive feedback on the taste and value of the wine. This benefits all wineries involved in two ways; the first being that consumers get involved with the input on the product, and the second being that, if consumers approve, the sells of their product increase.
