Riesling
Riesling is the lightest tasting white wine made from Riesling grapes grown in Germany. This wine type, noted for its fresh dry taste and pleasant aroma, is a favorite for enjoying with fish, chicken and pork.
Gewurtzraminer
Gewurtzraminer is a dry wine similar to Riesling but much fruitier in flavor. Many wine fanciers enjoy it alone or paired with grilled sausages, Asian specialties and pork dishes.
Chardonnay
Chardonnay is among the popular white wine types, tracing its roots to Burgundy, France. When fermented in oak barrels, chardonnay's dry citrus flavors takes on a buttery overtone. It is best served slightly chilled with seafood or chicken entrees.
Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is another white wine type that traces its origins to the Bordeux region of France. Muscat

Red wine grapes are used to produce six major red wine types. The Zinfandel grape, with hints of both pepper and fruit, is grown only in California. Because of its slightly zesty taste, this wine type is favored to accompany heartier dishes like pastas, pizza and meats prepared on the barbecue grill.
Syrah
Syrah wine, also called Shiraz, comes from grapes grown in Australia, France and California. This is a meat lover's wine with a hearty flavor associated with blackcurrants and black pepper.
Merlot
Merlot wine, produced from red wine grapes grown in the Bordeux region of France, is versatile and mellow, just as easy to enjoy with fish as with roasted meats. It's central flavor marries the taste of black cherries with fresh herbs.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is among the most popular of red wine types, with grapes grown in California, Chile, France, Australia, and California. Its rich, full taste, thanks to being produced in oak casks, accents a grilled hamburger or steak equally well.
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is a fruity and pleasant red wine produced from grapes grown in France, California, Oregon, New Zealand and Austria. With a flavor of fresh summer fruits, it marries well with grilled lamb, salmon and poultry.
Sangiovese
Sangiovese comes from the red wine grapes produced in California and the Tuscan region of Italy. It is the primary grape used to create the hearty Chianti wines that Italy is so well known for. Its medium fullness accented by berry and plum tastes makes it an excellent choice for Mediterranean and Italian specialties.
